Deyun Honey Sweet: A Royal Retreat

Chengbo Xu's Award-Winning Design Merges Tradition and Modernity

Inspired by the grandeur of Qing Dynasty royal architecture, Chengbo Xu's Deyun Honey Sweet Hotel is a breathtaking blend of traditional and modern design elements. This award-winning project, located on the hereditary land of Hao Ge, the eldest son of Huang Taiji, is a testament to the timeless allure of Chinese architectural aesthetics.

Chengbo Xu's design inspiration for Deyun Honey Sweet Hotel is rooted in the regal architecture of the Qing Dynasty. The hotel, which is the largest private quadrangle courtyard in China, is designed to serve as a venue for cultural exhibitions, business meetings, private gatherings, and weddings. The layout of the hotel is reminiscent of traditional Chinese royal garden-like structures, connected by an axis with three directions: the middle, the east, and the west.

The hotel's unique properties lie in its south-facing orientation and the use of multiple courtyards. The design incorporates traditional materials such as jade, jade carving, wood carving, gold brick, gold foil, and Mongolia black stone, which were commonly used in ancient royal decorations. These materials add a touch of authenticity and historical richness to the hotel's overall aesthetic.

With a total area of 30,000 square meters, the hotel boasts a Chinese banquet hall that can accommodate 120 guests, a tea room adorned with Chinese paintings, and a kaleidoscope-like wine cellar housing 6,699 bottles of wine from around the world. The hotel also includes a multi-function hall, Chinese VIP room, and meeting room, among other facilities.

The Deyun Honey Sweet Hotel is a testament to Chengbo Xu's meticulous attention to detail and commitment to preserving traditional architectural techniques. The screen wall, copper lion sculpture, black brick, eave, and roof beam are all examples of the traditional elements that have been carefully restored in this design. The hotel is a perfect blend of tradition and modernity, offering a new leisure lifestyle of collection, exhibition, and tasting.

The design was completed in August 2016 and has since been recognized for its exceptional creativity and innovation. It was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, a prestigious accolade that celebrates designs demonstrating outstanding expertise, technical characteristics, and artistic skill.

In conclusion, Chengbo Xu's Deyun Honey Sweet Hotel is a remarkable example of how traditional architecture can be seamlessly integrated with modern design elements to create a unique and engaging space. The hotel is not just a place to stay; it is a cultural experience that showcases the unique charm of Chinese architecture and offers a glimpse into the country's rich history and heritage.
